I’m Jamal, an academic in epidemiology, biostatistics and public health. Much of my professional life revolves around research, teaching, leadership and trying to make sense of evidence, uncertainty and the decisions we make from them.
But there has always been another side of life.
The original Tembeling began as a place to document my adventures, photography and occasional fascination with gadgets. It was where I recorded places I had been, things I had seen and experiences I wanted to remember.
Tembeling 2.0 is a revival of that space, but with a wider lens.
Over the years, the journeys have changed. Adventures are no longer only about reaching distant places. They can be found in academia, leadership, research, technology, cycling, travel, personal challenges and the unexpected turns that come with life.
I still enjoy long-distance cycling, hiking, travelling and photography. I remain fascinated by technology and by how things work. And I continue to believe that there is value in documenting the journey, including the successes, mistakes, uncertainties and lessons along the way.
So this blog does not really have a single subject. It reflects the things that occupy my mind and shape my life at different times.
Some posts will be about public health and research. Some about academia and leadership. Others about bicycles, technology, photography, travel or simply an experience worth recording.
Perhaps that is what Tembeling 2.0 is ultimately about: remaining curious, continuing to explore, and recognising that the journey itself keeps changing.
